Safety and Inspection for Preventing Fouling in Oil Exchangers

چکیده
One of the most costly problems in the maintenance of heat exchangers is de-fouling, which results in a waste of time and money. The present study includes two parts: the first section addresses fouling factor, its disadvantages, and circumstance of formation, fouling types, and general models of the fouling. In the second part, the problem of fouling in oil exchanger and particular type of fouling, namely, wax fouling in the oil mixtures has been studied. This paper reviews the fouling which is the most important parameter in designing heat exchanger and states the losses of the oil industry and other industries related to ignoring this issue. Failing to estimate this factor correctly, can result into problems in exchanger and as a result fluids of the process fail to reach the desired temperature. This paper tries to present solutions to deal with the problem of fouling in the oil industry and assesses the financial loss that comes from deposits in the industry.

Detection of Fouling in Heat Exchangers using Model Comparison
Fouling of heat exchangers is a severe problem in the industrialized world. The effects of fouling are reduced energy efficiency and increased greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, any heat transfer process has a risk of fouling on the heat transfer surface. The fouling can in some cases be cleaned physically, chemically or burned off; in other cases it may not be possible to clean the heat exchan...
متن کاملEffects of fouling on performance of retrofitted heat exchanger networks: A thermo-hydraulic based analysis
The energy recovery performance of crude pre-heat trains (PHTs) in oil refineries is typically impaired by deposition over time of fouling on the thermal surfaces. Such time varying effects are normally not considered in the design or retrofit of heat exchangers networks. In this paper, the importance of taking into account such effects is demonstrated, bymeans of a case study. An existing indu...
متن کاملAn Industrial Case Study on Retrofitting Heat Exchangers and Revamping Preheat Trains Subject to Fouling
Crude refinery preheat trains (PHTs) are a major part of a refining process as these units reduce the amount of thermal energy required to heat the crude oil to its distillation temperature. Fouling is a longstanding problem in the operation of PHTs; the ability of a refinery to process different crude blends or to increase its production capacity depends on the thermal and hydraulic performanc...
متن کاملSimultaneous Consideration of Flow and Thermal Effects of Fouling in Crude Oil Preheat Trains
Given models linking flow resistance and fouling resistance it becomes possible to simulate the effects of fouling on the hydraulic performance of a refinery pre-heat train. Such a simulation has been used here to identify when plant throughput will be limited by pressure drop; how throughput can be improved through the cleaning of individual exchangers and groups of exchangers; and how much pr...
متن کاملAnalysis of Fouling in HVAC Heat Exchangers by CFD
The purpose of this study is to identify parameters influence on the particle deposition within fin and tube heat exchanger of air-conditioning systems by CFD analysis. First the basic sketch of periodic geometry drawn and meshing operation including boundary conditions was performed. Then the gas side properties and flow parameters were solved by ANSYS Fluent 14.5 software. Lagrangian equa...
